Because Every Day Matters

Volunteers are an essential part of Good Samaritan Hospice’s mission of comfort, dignity and compassionate care. We believe that every day matters – and volunteers help make each day meaningful for the patients and families we serve.
Patients facing advanced illness and the loved ones caring for them often have unique physical, emotional, spiritual and practical needs. Volunteers play a vital role in providing companionship, comfort and support during an important season of life.
Sometimes the greatest gift is simply being there.

What Do Volunteers Do?
Every skill and talent can be used in meaningful ways. Our volunteers have been artists, musicians, students, retirees, professionals and community members who simply wanted to make a difference.
Volunteers enhance quality of life by:
- Providing companionship and friendly visits
- Offering caregivers much-needed respite
- Sharing conversation, music, reading or storytelling
- Assisting patients in writing or telling their life stories
- Sitting quietly with someone who does not wish to be alone
- Offering prayer or spiritual support, when requested
- Visiting with therapy pets
- Running errands or assisting with light tasks
- Supporting administrative work, bereavement programs and special events

Why Volunteers Are Needed
Patients facing advanced illness and the loved ones caring for them often experience emotional, spiritual and practical challenges. Volunteers often become a reassuring presence for patients and families, offering comfort, connection and moments of joy during a difficult time.
A Meaningful Opportunity for Students and Groups
Hospice volunteering offers a rewarding opportunity for high school clubs, college students, sororities, fraternities and community groups.
Students in nursing, social work, chaplaincy, counseling, therapy, EMT and medical programs often find volunteering especially meaningful – gaining valuable communication experience while serving others with compassion.
Patient-facing volunteer opportunities may be available as well as administrative or event support roles.
What Is the Commitment?
No prior experience is required – only an open heart and a desire to serve.
We work with volunteers to identify interests, preferred roles and scheduling availability. Comprehensive training and ongoing support are provided to ensure volunteers feel prepared and confident in their service.
Whether you are able to give a few hours each month or participate in special events throughout the year, your time makes a lasting difference.
