Compassionate Care Focused on Comfort, Dignity and Quality of Life

Hospice care provides compassionate support for individuals facing advanced illness when the focus of care shifts from curative treatment to comfort, symptom management and quality of life.
At Good Samaritan Hospice, we walk alongside patients and families with personalized care that addresses physical, emotional and spiritual needs — helping individuals live each day with dignity, peace and as much comfort as possible.
Rooted in Concordia’s mission of faith-based service, our hospice team provides guidance, reassurance and coordinated support during one of life’s most difficult journeys.

Hospice Care Centers on the Individual and the Family
Hospice care is not about giving up hope. Instead, it is about redefining hope around comfort, meaningful moments, personal wishes and support for the people who matter most.
Every individual’s journey is unique. Our interdisciplinary hospice team works closely with patients, families and physicians to create a personalized plan of care focused on:
- Pain and symptom management
- Emotional and spiritual support
- Improving comfort and quality of life
- Supporting family caregivers
- Helping patients remain in familiar surroundings whenever possible
- Respecting personal goals, beliefs and wishes
Hospice care also provides families with education, guidance and compassionate support throughout the caregiving journey and during bereavement.
When Is Hospice Care Appropriate?
Hospice care may be appropriate for individuals facing a life-limiting illness when curative treatment is no longer effective, no longer desired or when the burdens of treatment begin outweighing the benefits.
Patients may be eligible for hospice care when:
- A physician determines a life expectancy of six months or less if the illness follows its expected course
- Symptoms become increasingly difficult to manage
- Hospitalizations or emergency visits become more frequent
- Recovery or improvement is becoming less likely
- Comfort and quality of life become the primary goals of care
Families do not need to wait for a crisis to begin learning about hospice care. Many individuals and caregivers benefit from having conversations earlier to better understand available support and make informed decisions with confidence and peace of mind.
Where Can Hospice Care Be Provided?
Good Samaritan Hospice provides care wherever patients feel most comfortable and supported. Hospice services are commonly provided in:
- Private residences
- Assisted living communities
- Personal care homes
- Skilled nursing facilities
- The Good Samaritan Hospice House in Wexford for short-term inpatient care
Our goal is to help patients remain in familiar surroundings whenever possible while ensuring they receive compassionate, coordinated support tailored to their needs.

Faith-Based Care Grounded in Compassion
As a mission of Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Good Samaritan Hospice provides care rooted in compassion, dignity and service to others.
Spiritual support is available for patients and families who would like prayer, reflective conversation or faith-based encouragement during illness and grief. Our team honors and respects each individual’s beliefs, traditions and personal preferences, ensuring care remains deeply personal and supportive.
Whether serving patients at home, in residential communities or at the Hospice House in Wexford, our focus remains the same: providing comfort-centered care that helps individuals and families feel supported, heard and cared for every step of the way.
