Concordia’s commitment to caring extends beyond the walls of our locations and into the communities we are called to serve. Through Concordia Missions, employees and residents come together to serve our neighbors, build meaningful community partnerships and put our faith into action.
Guided by Serve Well – Serve God, the First Principle of Concordia’s Statements of Value, our mission efforts create opportunities for employees and residents to share their time, talents and resources in ways that respond to community needs. From hands-on volunteer service and collection drives to outreach projects and community partnerships, our efforts are shaped by the needs of each community and how we can most meaningfully respond.
Serving Our Neighbors Since 2018
Concordia Missions began in 2018 with a simple question: How can we extend Christ-like care beyond our locations and further into the communities we serve?
What began as a small group of Concordia Home and Community Services employees coordinating hands-on service opportunities has grown into a system-wide effort connecting employees, residents and community organizations through service.
Growing Our Impact
In 2022, the initiative formally became Concordia Missions, expanding participation across the Concordia family while remaining rooted in its original purpose: identifying needs, bringing people together and showing God’s love through compassionate service.
Since 2022, Concordia Missions has supported nearly 100 mission efforts in partnership with a growing network of community organizations, churches, schools and nonprofit partners. Each effort begins with a need – and the response is shaped by what will be most meaningful and helpful to the people and communities we serve.
Our mission efforts take many forms, bringing employees and residents together to share their time, talents and resources. Over the years, Concordia Missions has:
- Collected food, clothing, coats, school supplies, hygiene products and other needed items for individuals and families
- Raised funds and provided support for community organizations and specific needs
- Volunteered alongside community partners at food distributions, local events, service projects and large-scale initiatives such as Remote Area Medical and community house builds
- Created handmade blankets and comfort items for children, hospice and palliative care patients and others in need
- Built connections through projects such as correspondence with sponsored children and other faith-based and community outreach efforts
Service That Responds to the Need
Concordia Missions begins by listening to the needs of the communities we serve and finding meaningful ways to respond. Sometimes that means volunteering our time. Other times, it means collecting needed items, raising funds, preparing meals, creating handmade gifts or finding new ways to offer encouragement and connection.
Through these efforts, employees and residents have opportunities to share their time, talents and resources while building relationships with our neighbors and one another. As Concordia grows, our mission efforts grow with us – creating new opportunities to respond to community-defined needs while strengthening relationships with organizations already doing meaningful work in the areas we serve.
Every need is different. So is the way we serve.
