\u201cI thought, \u2018I can\u2019t keep up my beautiful home anymore,\u2019\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One November day, she decided to take a drive \u2013 a simple decision that would change her life for the better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When she arrived at Arbutus Park, a team member showed her a cottage \u2013 the one she now calls home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt had everything I needed,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortly after deciding to move, another piece fell into place: her niece chose to purchase her home, keeping it in the family and easing what can often be one of the most difficult parts of a transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt all just worked out,\u201d Pat said. \u201cIt was like everything fell into place the way it was supposed to.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, nearly a decade later, she hasn\u2019t looked back.

\u201cI never missed my house,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s been a blessing after a blessing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Admissions and Resident Coordinator Kelsey Josephson, the sense of community at Concordia at Arbutus Park isn\u2019t just something residents experience \u2013 it\u2019s something she feels every day in her work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelsey\u2019s connection to Arbutus Park began years ago, when she worked as an Activities Aide during high school. After graduating from college, she returned to the community in her current role, something she had always hoped to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI had always loved working here and made it a goal to return,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, two years into her position, Kelsey plays an important role in helping new residents transition into independent living \u2013 often meeting individuals and families at the very beginning of their journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over time, those relationships grow into something more meaningful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy residents have become like family to me,\u201d she said. \u201cI would do anything for them, and I know they would do the same for me.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That sense of connection is something Kelsey sees reflected throughout the community. Residents regularly step up to welcome newcomers, volunteer at events and support one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of Kelsey\u2019s most meaningful experiences has come from a simple idea: creating more opportunities for conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the transition to Concordia, she helped introduce a monthly coffee gathering for retirement living<\/a> residents \u2013 a smaller, more informal setting where residents could receive updates, ask questions and share feedback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What started as a small group quickly grew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen we first started, fewer than 10 residents attended,\u201d she said. \u201cOnce word spread, attendance more than tripled.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m often told how much they appreciate having a place to ask questions and feel heard,\u201d Kelsey said. \u201cIt\u2019s become one of my favorite things we do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelsey credits much of that success to the support she receives from her team and Concordia leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSince the acquisition, I\u2019ve felt nothing but support,\u201d she said. \u201cThere is always someone willing to help or offer guidance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That collaboration allows her to focus on what matters most: making sure residents feel valued, supported and listened to. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur goal is to make sure their needs are met and their opinions are heard,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
