One word can sum up the 2015 Concordia Fishing Derby for Kids: Wow!
At last year’s fishing derby, we were hoping for 200 people to come – and we ended up with over 350. So this year, we decided to aim high and plan for 500, with the hope that we could get a few more people than in 2014… Unbelievably, over 600 people came to Saxony Farm Estate on Saturday!
Kids from all walks of life, from all over western PA, enjoyed a great day of fishing. The fish sizes ranged from a 3-inch blue gill to a 14-inch bass. We provided 1,000 beverages and 600 hot dogs and used hundreds of pounds of ice!
The craziest thing was the weather: It was nice throughout the event, from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. At 2:05, just as the last of the participants were leaving, it started to rain. By 2:15, it was a torrential downpour! How’s that for timing?
Thank you to all the volunteers and sponsors (below) who made the day a huge success! If you missed it, below are some pictures (click photos to enlarge). We have a few more over on our Facebook page, so make sure you check those out too! Feel free to leave a comment below. And if you have any pictures from the event, post them to the Concordia Facebook Wall!
Be sure to check the Events & News page for coming events at Concordia. The next mini fishing derby will be at the Summer Festival on the Cabot Campus, July 26. More info on that to come!
