The Concordia Team is comprised of many talented and compassionate employees who have graciously served our mission in a variety of ways – and we are excited for you to meet these fantastic individuals. Let us introduce you to Kathleen Evanochko!
Kathleen joined the Concordia family in June of 2014 as a Medical Social Worker for Concordia Visiting Nurses. She is also a member of several committees formed under Concordia’s home and community-based services including Safety, Professional Advisory, Missions and currently chairs the Ethic Committee.
Kathleen told us what drew her to the field of social work and why she chooses to work for Concordia.
“I fell in love with my 101-psychology class,” Kathleen said. “The field intrigued me. I met with a psychology professor who encouraged me to seek guidance from the social work department. After this meeting, I chose to study social work because I found the field to be diverse in career choices and appreciated the holistic approach to helping people. Social workers seek to enhance the well-being of individuals.”
She continued, “In the home health setting, Concordia Visiting Nurses provides me the opportunity to work one-on-one with my patients. I also appreciate the flexibility of the role along with how my colleagues respect my judgement and opinion regarding the care needs of our patients.”
Kathleen told us that she best serves our patients by respecting their rights to self-determination.
“Helping patients and families understand their illness, treatment and resource options, and helping them understand the consequences of the decisions they make is the best way I can serve them. Along with being an advocate with integrity, focused on empathy, trustworthiness, and passion to help our patients maintain the quality of life they deserve.”
She is motivated to succeed by the desire to help others help themselves and her genuine love of social work.
“I’m motivated by the people who take and apply the guidance I give them that in turn make their lives a little better and a little less stressful. I love being a social worker because I’m proud to work in a field that values diversity and advocates for the rights of all people.”
Kathleen continued, “I consider it a privilege for people to let me into their homes and share their concerns and struggles with me. They put their trust in me to help them reach their goals. I love having the opportunity to encourage, empower, and educate our patients.”
In her time outside of Concordia, Kathleen enjoys spending time with her family, son Bobby (pictured with her) and her dog Chico and cats Jasmine and Posey. Her hobbies include music, crafting, and decorating.
