My Concordia Career: Karen Smith’s Story

The Concordia Team is comprised of many talented and compassionate employees who have graciously served our mission in a variety of ways – and we are excited for you to meet these fantastic individuals. Let us introduce you to Karen Smith!

Karen is a Clinical Staff Educator for Concordia Visiting Nurses (CVN). She began her Concordia career in April of this year when she was hired as an Occupational Therapist for CVN’s South Hills service area. In September, Karen transitioned into the Educator role and now focuses on ensuring that each of our field clinicians receive individualized training and education.

Karen describes Concordia as “welcoming” and gave us a few reasons why she chooses to work for our organization.

“I am new to the Concordia family; however, everyone has been so welcoming. It was apparent right away that Concordia does not stray from their mission and that the primary focus is on high quality patient care. I enjoy the agency’s commitment to their staff by consistently offering support and resources whenever needed. I have so many team members to meet but have enjoyed working with everyone I’ve met so far!”

Karen spends the majority of her time outside of Concordia with The Boy Scouts of America, where she serves as a Den Leader, chairs Advancement and Training and is also a Day Camp Program Director. She and her family have been involved with the organization for several years – that’s even how she met her husband Ken! Her son Peter is a First Class Scout (BSA Troop 198, Moon, PA) and her daughter Erin is a Wolf Scout (Cub Scout Pack 198, Moon, PA). Her daughter was the first girl in the Pittsburgh market to join the Cub Scouts when the organization opened their doors to all children earlier this year.

Karen told us she is motivated to succeed by serving others!

“I love helping others succeed. I find that my success is directly tied to the success of those I serve, whether it be a formal training or just helping others problem solve.”
