My Concordia Career: Betsy Gill’s Story

BetsyGill2

The Concordia Team is comprised of many talented and compassionate employees who have graciously served our mission in a variety of ways – and we are excited for you to meet these fantastic individuals. Let us introduce you to Betsy Gill!

Betsy is a housekeeper for Concordia at Ridgewood Place. She has been a part of the Concordia family since January of 2001.

“After close to 20 years, I am still a housekeeper, but I have learned a lot through the years! I have especially learned all of the unique needs our residents have.”

Betsy initially chose to work for Concordia because the facility was close to her home. At the time, her children were young and she wanted to find a place within her neighborhood so that she felt comfortable when leaving for work.  The community-minded and family-oriented atmosphere at Concordia have made a positive impact on Betsy’s career.

“Concordia has given me the opportunity to care for my family at home as well as my family at Concordia. I describe our organization as “coincidental” because I worked at another job and Concordia worked with me and my schedule so that I could do both. I’ll never forget that and I have been able to return the favor by solely being here now.”

She continued, “I lost both of my parents by the time I was 35. I then helped take care of my neighbors. When the husband passed, his wife moved into Ridgewood Place so I was able to continue to take care of her. She told everyone that I was hers!”

Betsy told us that our residents motivate her to succeed and explained how she best serves their needs.

“Our residents need us. Sometimes it’s with a simple smile. Sometimes they just need someone to listen to them. Sometimes they just want me to run the sweeper! I best serve our residents by getting to know each one. If I know if someone has memory issues or a physical disability, I am better equipped to serve them properly.”

When we asked Betsy how Concordia has developed her healthcare career, she had the following to say.

“I just came along for the ride in the beginning. I soon realized I needed the residents as much as they needed me. I take pride in keeping our building very nice and clean. We get many compliments about our hard work.”

Betsy spends her time outside of work with her growing family!

“My wonderful husband of 32 years and I have two children – both have now married and recently bought homes. My daughter blessed us with our grandson Owen this year. We try to spend as much time with them as possible.”
