History

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden, PA, a congregation of Catholic sisters, founded the ministry of Villa St. Joseph in 1997 in order to meet the critical health care needs of elderly residents in Beaver County and surrounding communities as well as the needs of the sisters. On February 20, Villa St. Joseph opened its doors as a 120-bed skilled and long-term care facility with specialized dementia care; it was dedicated on May 1, the Feast Day of St. Joseph the Worker. The Villa’s mission – as a place of healing committed to providing excellence in compassionate care – gives witness to a profound love of God and love of neighbor without distinction. This expression is rooted in the foundation of its sponsor, the Sisters of St. Joseph.

Since its founding, Villa St. Joseph has served more than 5,575 residents and families. Over time, the Villa increased its services to include an expansion of the building to accommodate an outpatient therapy program and additional services in its café. Renovations to the building included country kitchens, additional sunrooms, redesigned nurse stations, and technology upgrades to enhance a home-like and pleasant environment for residents and staff. With a person-centered, holistic approach to care, the Villa supplemented its services with a music therapy program and an arts programs.

Villa St. Joseph has consistently been recognized as a leader in providing excellent care and service. Among its many awards are included an overall 5-star rating from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Top Workplace, Beaver County Times Best in the Valley Award, and the U.S. News and World Report 2017-18 Best Nursing Home.

With joy and gratitude in 2018, the Sisters of St. Joseph, along with the Villa St. Joseph family, celebrated 21 years of this loving and compassionate ministry. In April of that year, Villa St. Joseph joined the Concordia family of locations and became well-positioned to meet the needs of future generations in the Beaver area – and continue to share the love of God to all we serve.
