Concordia's 11th Annual Golf Outing a Success

July 15, 2014

The 11th Annual Concordia Golf Outing was yesterday at Treesdale, and we're pretty sure none of the 160+ golfers let a little rain hold them back from having a great time - while, of course, supporting our charitable care fund.

We don't have final figures yet, but it looks like approximately $75,000 was raised! Make sure you take a look at some pictures from the event at the bottom of this post, and in the meantime, check out Concordia President & CEO Keith Frndak's letter from the program book. We think it sums up pretty well why we have events like these.

Oh, and as usual, feel free to leave a comment below!

Dear friends, welcome to the 11th Annual Concordia Golf Outing. I know we’re all here to enjoy a fun day of golf, networking and fellowship, but I’d like to tell you a quick story about a woman named Dorothy.

Dorothy was born in the 1920s and grew up in the middle of the Great Depression. A playful child with brown curly hair, she and her five siblings worked odd jobs from a very young age to help support the family. Eventually, Dorothy would grow up and find work as a secretary. She met her husband John and had a son, naming him Robert. Before she knew it, Robert had a child of his own, making Dorothy a proud grandmother.

Unfortunately, Dorothy’s husband passed away shortly after. A few years later, after a little fall in the driveway and some memory issues, Dorothy knew she needed assistance. She moved to Concordia and, within months, saw improvement in her condition. Her favorite things in life were seeing her granddaughter, going to church, sitting on the balcony with her newspaper and chocolate cake night in the dining room. Her son would tell her nurses that he’s never seen his mother this happy. Sure, she had an occasional health problem, but would live at Concordia for 10 happy years…

But with only social security and her husband’s small pension, most of her care was paid for through the Good Samaritan Endowment Fund – our charitable fund for those who can’t afford the full cost of care. To put that in perspective, each of you who have supported this golf outing had a hand in making sure that all of our hundreds of “Dorothys” are cared for. And I hope that makes you proud.

Thank you for your support, and enjoy a great day of golf.

Special thanks to our Signature Sponsor SEI (five years in a row now!), our dozens of other generous sponsors, volunteers and golfers - you're all the best! Feel free to visit the Give A Gift section of our website for more information on giving options at Concordia.
