Concordia Home & Community Staff Distribute Food, Gift Cards at Servant Event | VIDEO

In 2018, Concordia Community Support Services (CCSS) started a Missions Committee that coordinated four “Servant Events” for our staff to be able to reach out into the community. The events included volunteering at The Lighthouse Foundation, a nonprofit based in Butler, PA; helping run a community day in Farrell, PA; and framing a transitional dorm-style house for girls who have aged out of foster care.

The last event of the year was collecting and distributing nearly 200 totes full of food and gift cards over the holidays to patients in need. One clinician who passed out tote bags said, “There was only one real problem with this food distribution program: There were so many tears from my patients who were touched by the care of our organization, that I was tearing up at many of their houses as well.”

CCSS CEO Martin Trettel said he is so proud of the team for coming together for these events, and is already looking forward to the opportunities that will open up for us to serve in 2019. The Missions Committee is planning to expand this outreach to even more areas this year and do a total of six Servant Events in 2019.
