During the month of November, Concordia celebrates National Home Care, Palliative Care and Hospice Month by recognizing all nurses, therapists, aides, spiritual care coordinators, social workers and administrative and operations support staff who make a remarkable and positive difference in the lives of the patients and families they serve.
According to the National Home Care Association, an estimated 12 million people annually receive some form of in-home health care. The organization calculates an estimated 7.8 billion miles traveled each year to provide the care. Concordia’s home and community field clinicians traveled a collective 7.1 million miles over the past year and performed over 65,000 in-home visits.
These are incredible statistics that speak to so much more than impressive data – they speak to the heartbeat of our industry. Behind every patient, every visit and every mile driven there is a team of healthcare professionals and clinicians working in tandem to deliver exceptional care.
The administrative and backend efforts can be cumbersome and laborious, and the frontline team often experience a new challenge every day – from traveling in inclement weather to having difficult patient conversations and the unexpected in between, some days carry significant weight. The light of our industry is how you all work together to improve the quality of life of those you serve and you do so selflessly. To me, that is the definition of compassion.
To Concordia’s home and community services team – thank you for your support and your dedication to our mission. To all home care, home health and hospice professionals – caregiving is the most special gift you can give to someone and our collective mission to serve all in need would not be possible without your commitment to person-centered care.
God’s Blessings,
Martin J. Trettel
