Concordia Calendar: Meet February’s Team Members

Fox Chapel Blog Photo Feb 2021

At Concordia Lutheran Ministries, our employees are the heart and hands of our mission – they care for our residents and patients with their hard work, kindness and empathy and keep our organization running with their leadership, vision and dedication.

Watching our amazing staff handle the unprecedented challenges of 2020 that continue into this year has been truly inspiring, so we chose to highlight just a few in our 2021 Concordia Calendar as a proclamation of gratitude for their many contributions. Though we wish there could be 3,000 pages in the calendar to feature all of our employees, this small sampling is representative of our extraordinary staff as a whole. Each month, we’ll introduce you to the talented, compassionate team members featured in our calendar.

February’s employees are from Concordia of Fox Chapel: Carrie Booher and Kristen Young, both med tech/supervisors. Carrie will be celebrating her 9-year service anniversary in May and Kristen will celebrate 22 years in June!

Q: Why do you choose to work for Concordia?

Carrie: A friend initially told me about Concordia and how it was such a great place to work. I enjoy the benefits offered, especially the medical and retirement plans. I also love working with dementia residents.

Kristen: I choose to work for Concordia because I enjoy helping others. Working here has provided me with opportunities to learn more about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia diagnoses.

Q: What aspects do you love most about your career?

Carrie: We are a family at Fox Chapel and I love caring for our residents.

Kristen: I love being with our residents. I also enjoy meeting new people and creating friendships.

Q: How do you best serve your patients and residents?

Carrie: With a loving and caring heart.

Kristen: By being patient and kind, and by simply being there for them.

Q: How do you decompress after a long day at work?

Carrie: I listen to music on the way home from a shift. I also enjoy reading.

Kristen: By taking care of my daughter, helping her with schoolwork and gymnastics. I enjoy watching movies and hanging out with my family and friends.

Q: Can you tell us about a time you and/or your co-workers went above and beyond during the pandemic?

Carrie: I’d like to think we have all gone above and beyond, especially during the pandemic, not just myself. The day we experienced our first positive case was very stressful but everyone helped to make sure we were prepared. I was there to help in any way that I could and to do anything that was asked of me.

Kristen: I believe we have all gone above and beyond during this pandemic! I monitor all residents for symptoms, give extra attention and care to those who are feeling ill and offer to do whatever I can to better assist our residents.
