Adopt a Concordia Resident for Christmas This Year (2017)

PC GiftParty 14 001

Here is a stat that should make you smile: Americans contributed an estimated $390.05 billion to U.S. charities last year. That’s billions with a “b.” And that’s a lot of generous, caring people and organizations! We have a number of opportunities for those wishing to support Concordia this season (visit www.CLMSeasonofHope.com for info), and one in particular is pretty fun! It’s called “Adopt A Resident.”

At Concordia, we don’t think any of our skilled nursing or personal care residents/patients should be without a gift during the Christmas season. It may sound outdated to some people, but we believe the reason we give and receive gifts this time of year is to remember that God gave us the greatest gift of all.

So each December, many of the locations in the Concordia Lutheran Ministries family participate in this program. Residents in skilled nursing and personal care provide the activities staff with a wish list. Then, employees, community members, churches, businesses and even independent living residents “adopt” a resident (or in some cases many residents) to make sure they have a gift to open.

If interested in participating in the program (Black Friday is right around the corner!), call the facility of your choice below, ask to “adopt” a resident and you will be given that resident’s wish list. For those who prefer to send a general gift, the activities staff can suggest some newly purchased items that residents typically use. Items should be wrapped and labeled with either the resident’s name or, if it is a general gift, what the gift is, and can be dropped off at the appropriate facility.

Here are a few general gift ideas:

– Sweat suits

– Door wreaths

– Stamps and stationary

– Digital clocks with large numbers

– Sugar-free candy

– Beauty shop gift certificates (at the facility)

– Magnifying glass

– Slippers or slipper socks

– Throws or blankets

– Sports memorabilia
