4 Benefits of Volunteering (Happy National Volunteer Month!)

Did you know that April has been National Volunteer Appreciation Month? We’re grateful for our volunteers all year round, but we had a number of special events this month just to say “thank you” for all of their hard work. This year, one of those events was a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon at our Cabot campus – where staff members served over 175 volunteers!

Concordia’s volunteers donate two precious gifts every day: their time and talent. Whether they help in offices, do some light yard work, assist with chapel services, help with special events or any of the MANY other tasks they do, we appreciate every bit of help. We love all of our volunteers, and we also love to see new faces joining their ranks. If you have been thinking about becoming a volunteer yourself, check out just a few of the great benefits that volunteering can have!

  1. Activity for your mind and body. Volunteering can be a way to stay active at any age, whether you are in school, working, retired or anywhere in between. You can pass your time in a productive way that helps you keep in touch with and build up your community.
  2. The opportunity to learn. No matter where or how you volunteer, the experience will open you up to new people and environments – which is always a great way to learn new skills and ideas that can apply to other areas of your life. If you think you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, just give it a try!
  3. Patience and understanding. Opening up to new opportunities is fun and exciting, but it’s not always easy. Volunteering and giving your time can be challenging, but it can ultimately teach you how to be more patient and understanding of those around you.
  4. The joy of helping others. This might seem like a no-brainer, but while volunteering can offer volunteers themselves many benefits, the biggest benefit is for those they serve and help every day. This is especially true for non-profits like Concordia, where we help people every day in our mission of faith in caring. The selfless giving of volunteering spreads joy for everyone involved in the process.

Our volunteer’s helping hands bring joy to more people than we ever could have reached without them, so to all of our wonderful volunteers, thank you so much for your dedication and commitment to helping Concordia serve others. We thank God for every one of you.

Just because April is National Volunteer Month doesn’t mean we don’t need some helping hands the rest of the year! If you or someone you know would like to join Concordia’s growing family of volunteers, call the Concordia location of your choice and ask how you can help, or message us through the Contact form on our website.
