2016 Concordia Dog Show Another Doggone Good Time

Cats vs. Dogs – it’s a rivalry as old as time. The conflict between our favorite pets has become so passionate over the years that it has even caused division between us humans. After all, we’re all either a dog person or a cat person, right? Whichever pet you believe reigns supreme, odds are, you have a pretty good argument in their favor.

While one could easily argue that cats win the battle for funniest YouTube videos, dogs were the stars of the show at Concordia the other day, as the Cabot Activities Department hosted the 16th annual Dog Days of Summer Dog Show!

Once again, the weather cooperated and we had a beautiful evening for the event on Aug. 18 behind Lund Care Center on the Concordia at Cabot campus. Close to 175 residents, staff and community members showed up to watch the 20 dogs put on their best show… or, at the very least, look cute while their owners tried desperately to get them to do a trick.

Congratulations to the winner in each category!

  • Best Groomed – Bella (Golden Retriever)
  • Most Friendly – Molly (Pembroke Corgi)
  • Best Performer – Foxy (Chow Mix)
  • Most Obedient – Zoe (Poodle/King Charles Cavalier Mix)

As part of the festivities, a special memorial was held for Ike, a therapy dog who has been visiting Concordia residents for years, who passed away recently. Ike was known for, among other things, his fun outfits at this event and for being the sweetest, most gentle giant around (he was a Bullmastiff). Special thanks to the Cabot Personal Care and Skilled Nursing Activities departments and their volunteers for putting on this fun event, and our resident judges for picking the winners!
